Information sent by Thurrock Council re. COVID-19 testing

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you are well.

Please see information below sent by Thurrock Council:

Get tested before returning to school
We are asking all primary, secondary and college staff and students to book a free COVID-19 PCR test before Sunday 7 March. This is a ‘polymerase chain reaction test’ and it is sent to a lab to check whether you have COVID-19. This test provides a provides a more accurate result than the Lateral Flow Device (LFD) test as they can pick up if someone has COVID-19 before they are highly infectious.

The aim of this is to help everyone who will be attending a school next week access a COVID-19 test before they return and begin their regular testing regime.
Families of school-age children are not being asked to have this one-off PCR test, only pupils themselves.
We are strongly encouraging parents to arrange this test for their children, and for all those who work in schools in any capacity to also take this chance to prevent COVID-19 being transmitted.

To get a test, visit and follow the instructions in the section called ‘If you still have to attend your workplace’.

Twice-weekly rapid testing
The Government has confirmed twice-weekly testing using rapid LFD tests for all families and households with primary, secondary school and college aged children and young people. Schools will be providing further information on this and families can order a home test kit from
A confirmatory PCR test will be required for positive lateral flow tests which are taken at home, either through at home PCR testing or at a local PCR testing site you can find out how to do this at
